Bridge to Terabithia - Class 4

Bridge to Terabithia

By Katherine Paterson.

This half term we have based much of our work around the book ‘Bridge to Terabithia. Terabithia was very fun to learn and read about. We did lots of different activities  like building dens and making bridges. In Maths we did a rucksack challenge and designed gateways, In art we used art pastels to draw what we thought Terabithia looked like and in music we used a computer program called Garage Band.  In literacy we did some creative writing and wrote leaflets persuading people to visit Terabithia, We also listened to Mrs Balfour and Miss Johnson read the book to us and we watched the film.

Here are some descriptions of our favourite activities.

Drawing our visions of Terabithia

Drawing Terabithia with chalk pastels was a messy but fun with an arty touch, way of learning for the class. Most of Class 4 enjoyed it because we were given the choice of who we would be working with instead of being given a group to work with. “I liked the art because we were in charge of what we drew

on to the paper” said an enthusiastic Class 4 member, Hannah Simpson, age 10, Year 6.

“It was a great opportunity to use chalk pastels” explained another, Misha Harris, age 10, Year 5. Once the room was clean the Class agreed that all in all this was an exciting activity to experience.

Dens

On Friday 7th of December, we made shelters in the wood. We used a lot of equipment such as tarpaulin, string, wood and a few other things. We also had to think about triangles because they make structure stronger, like bridges. It was great fun and I was really happy that we got to go on that educational trip.

Thanks go to Mr Prichard for his wonderful help on that day and before we went. More thanks go to Mrs Balfour for letting us go on that day. Also thanks go to Mrs Gardener and Miss Hogg. Special thanks go to Mr Kempner.

                       Garage Band

Garage Band is a program on the Apple computer that you can enjoy using to make music. Olivia and I had to make music to match with a clip from the film Terabithia.

We made our tune by using a computer and our own imaginations. The music can be slow or fast and you can use different instruments; but it is important to match up the music with the moves of the actors on the film.
