At Whiteshill Primary School our students are offered a range of music opportunities including playing instruments and singing; both in class and performing at public events. In recent years public performances have included harvest festival and a World War 1 Memorial Concert at Whiteshill Church, Noahs Flood at Gloucester Cathedral and Whitestock, the schools annual music festival. Please see the class pages for more information.
Private tuition is also available within the school day for pupils who choose to learn an instrument. Arrangements should be made directly with the teachers whose contact details are given below.
Guitar and Drum Lessons
Mr Cormack-Hicks teaches guitar and drums on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at school. Each child's lesson lasts for 15 minutes and costs £6.
In guitar lessons children are taught fingerstyle classical and contemporary pieces. As children grow in confidence they are taught to strum and to use a plectrum. They are also taught to read musical notation and to read and use TAB.
In drum lessons children learn basic beats and fills. These skills are built upon enabling children to play contemporary songs with distinctive drum beats.
To learn more about these lessons please contact Mr Cormack-Hicks direct on 01453 757886 or by email at email@example.com .
Mr Cormack-Hicks also runs a lunchtime ukulele club for beginners and experienced students.
Mrs Jewel, who has been teaching piano for over 10 years, currently has spaces on Wednesdays for lessons at school. Each child's lesson last 15 minutes and costs £7.50.
Learning piano can improve a child's confidence and co-ordination. In lessons children are taught to read music, appreciate rhyhtm and an awareness of musicality in a fun and engaging way. As a child's skill and confidence grows they have the opportunity to work towards ABRSM exams in classical piano.
